NBA Preseason Awards

With the NBA season hours away, now seems like as good a time as any to give you our picks for preseason awards. Anyone could tell you who will win MVP or who is going to win the title, but we here at Head in the Game are going to give the winners of the awards that actually matter, the ones we made up specifically for this post. Please enjoy our (first) annual NBA Preseason Awards.

Please, Please, Pretty Please Don’t Leave Us Award - This award is given out to the pending free agent who by leaving would most devastate their current team.
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
Troy's Pick - LeBron James
This may be the most obvious of all the awards. With all signs pointing to LeBron making an exodus from Lake Erie and Kyrie already in Boston, the summer of 2018 will be a sad time in the Land. The likelihood that they will have a top three pick helps soften the blow, but let’s face it, there is no replacing the King.
Grant's Pick - LeBron
Like Troy said, this may be the most obvious award winner. However, I truly believe that there is still a strong possibility LeBron stays in Cleveland, especially since his family (and best friend Dwayne Wade) is there.

The Shark Bait Award - This award is given out to the team that will or should probably tank to receive a better draft pick.
Winner Winner Refried Bean Dinner
Troy's Pick - Phoenix Suns
The Suns are in rebuild mode anyway, and the addition of the Heat’s draft pick (as long as it is not in the top 7) could mean that the 2018 draft will be crucial for them. Add that to the fact that they have assets such as Eric Bledsoe and Tyson Chandler, and there is the possibility that the Suns will have upwards of 3 first round picks come the trade deadline.
Grant's Pick - New York Knicks
The Knicks finally ended the Carmelo Anthony era by trading him to OKC this offseason, and now I think it's time for them to tank this season to add another young talent to go with Kristaps Porzingis and 2017 first round pick Frank Ntilikina. They have a young superstar and some young building blocks around him, but they're not there yet.

From Titanic to Iceberg Award - The purpose of this award is to honor the team who had a good season in 2016-17, but who will finish toward the bottom of the league this year.
Winner Winner Academy Award Viewer
Troy's Pick - Atlanta Hawks
Last season the Hawks finished 5th in the East with a record of 43-39. With the loss of some key players this past offseason, it does not seem like the Hawks are going to put up much of a fight. Mike Budenholzer may still be one of the better coaches in the NBA, but I wouldn’t have too much hope for this year if you follow the Hawks.
Grant's Pick - Los Angeles Clippers
Last season the Clips finished fourth in the Western Conference with a record of 51-31. They still have Blake Griffin (and solid role players around him), but the loss of Chris Paul will be felt. He was a talented floor leader who ran the offense. In a tough Western Conference, the Clippers may have a hard time getting into the playoffs.

JaVale McGee Memorial Award - Given to the player that is sure to inspire the most memes this season.
Winner Winner Fidget Spinner
Troy's Pick - Lonzo Ball
It may not be his fault that Lonzo is the recipient of this prestigious award, but he is very deserving nonetheless. Be prepared to see his mug plastered all over your twitter feed with some snarky caption and then be prepared to see the same meme plastered all over your Facebook two to three weeks later.
Grant's Pick - J.R. Smith
Troy took the obvious one, so I'll go with another obvious one. J.R. has been a human meme for awhile, and it'll be interesting to see how he reacts now that he is coming off the bench behind D-Wade. No matter what happens, he'll probably provide some meme-able moments.

Purgatory Award - This award is handed out to the NBA team who has been stuck in a series of mediocrity for years and will remain so this season.
Winner Winner Last Supper Dinner
Troy's Pick - Orlando Magic
Ever since Dwight Howard left central Florida, there has been little magic left in Orlando. They’ve had very few good things happen to them in recent years and that trend will likely continue.
Grant's Pick - Detroit Pistons
The Pistons have plateaued as a middling team in the East the past few seasons, much like Andre Drummond has plateaued after looking like a potential cornerstone at the beginning of his career. Even with the addition of the underrated Avery Bradley, Detroit will still be a middling team.

Pumpkin Spice Award - Awarded to the team who will start the year out strong but ultimately fall off or limp into the playoffs.
Winner Winner Ugg Boot Wearer
Troy's Pick - Washington Wizards
The Wizards have all the makings of a playoff team. They have one of the best backcourts in the league and should have an excellent start. That being said, there is always one team in the East that has an incredible start to the season and hits a slump come January, and Washington seems like as good of a candidate as anyone.
Grant's Pick - Philadelphia 76ers
I have belief in "The Process", and I can see Joel Embiid and company coming out of the gates firing in the East. But there are a lot of young and injury-prone players on that team, so it might be hard for them to keep it up throughout the whole season.

Joe Thomas Service Award - Given to the best player stuck playing for a non-competitive team.
Winner Winner Cleveland Browns Player
Troy's Pick - Anthony Davis
New Orleans is a bad team despite the DeMarcus Cousins trade last season. Despite the weak nature of his squad, Anthony Davis has become a perennial candidate for an all-NBA team, and that should be no different this year, even if his team will struggle to get anywhere near .500.
Grant's Pick - Mike Conley
The Grizzlies have lost some key players the last few years, but Conley and Marc Gasol are keeping this team's head above water. It might be hard for the Griz to compete in the competitive West this year, but they do have an elite point guard.

Bridesmaid Award - Awarded to the player who should receive MVP consideration, but will get lost in the superstar shuffle.
Winner Winner Rehearsal Dinner
Troy's Pick - Damian Lillard
The NBA is filled with stars at the moment. KD, LeBron, Steph, Russ, Harden, and Leonard are players that could easily win MVP. There are only so many slots that can take up the minds of MVP voters, which leaves a lot of fantastic players without consideration. One such player is Damian Lillard, who gets better year after year. This year he’ll be great again, but unless he has the game of his life night in and night out, Dame will get lost in the superstar shuffle.
Grant's Pick - Karl Anthony-Towns
KAT has turned into a legitimate NBA superstar in Minnesota. With the addition of Jimmy Butler (and the continued development of Towns and Andrew Wiggins), the Wolves will be more competitive this season, but Towns will still have to compete for MVP with LeBron, KD, Steph, Russ, Harden, and Kawhi.

Pampers Premium - Given to the rookie who has been placed in the best position to succeed.
Winner Winner Dandy Diaper
Troy's Pick - Dennis Smith Jr.
You can keep you Lonzo and Fultz, because my bet for best rookie in this upcoming season is Dennis Smith Jr. Smith was the 9th pick in the draft and inherits a system in Dallas that he’s well suited for. Rick Carlisle’s offense is set up great for the young point guard, and is my pick for not only Pampers Premium, but also for Rookie of the Year.
Grant's Pick - De'Aaron Fox
I agree that Dennis Smith has been put in a great position, but I really like Fox. He has elite speed and a competitive nature. Sacramento isn't usually synonymous with "good position to succeed", but he'll be playing behind (and with) George Hill, who provides a solid veteran presence. Watch out for the sly Fox.

Bucks in 6 Award - The award bestowed on the player who best exemplifies what it means to be a Greek Freak.
Winner Winner (In 6 Games)
Troy's Pick - Giannis Antetokounmpo
Once in a great while a player comes along that makes people stop and go, "aw gee, I think this guy is pretty good", and that player is Giannis.
Grant's Pick - Giannis
One day, I'm going to sit down and tell my son why I named him Giannis. I will tell him of a once-in-a-lifetime player who had the reach of a pterodactyl, the stride of a leopard, and the uniqueness of a unicorn. Long live Giannis.

Fantasy Football Week 6 Preview (and Picks!)

Somehow, Josh McCown and the Jets are currently tied for first in the AFC East
Photo via NFL Spin Zone
It was an interesting week in the NFL. Big Ben threw five interceptions (two of which were returned for touchdowns) against the Jaguars. Rookie Deshaun Watson threw five touchdown passes... and the Texans still lost to the unbeaten Chiefs. And after a win over Cleveland, the New York Jets sat in first place in the AFC East (they're currently in a three-way tie for first). Meanwhile, I lost in all three of my fantasy leagues last week, falling to 1-4 in two of those leagues and 2-3 in the other. Why are you reading this again? Well, thanks for the support, even though it might cost you your fantasy league.

Players I Like This Week

Quarterback
Matthew Stafford, Lions (@ NO)
Detroit and New Orleans rank 27th and 28th in the NFL (respectively) in pass defense, so this should be a shootout between Stafford and Drew Brees. Stafford is questionable with an ankle injury, but he's expected to play. The injury, along with the fact that the Saint defense has actually played well the last two games, could lead to some people sleeping on him Sunday. Don't.

Deshaun Watson, Texans (vs. Browns)
The rookie has been outstanding the last three games, and a meeting with Cleveland probably won't signal the end to his successful run. The last time the Browns faced a mobile quarterback, they gave up two rushing touchdowns (and a passing touchdown) to Jacoby Brissett. Watson is better than Brissett, and he gets the chance to punish Cleveland for not drafting him.

Josh McCown, Jets (vs. NE)
The 38-year-old veteran has actually not been horrible (he 1,020 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions this season), and this week he gets to face the worst pass defense in the NFL. New England has given up at least 300 yards and a touchdown to each quarterback it has played, making McCown a solid streaming option for those who have a quarterback on a bye.

Running Back
Alvin Kamara, Saints (vs. DET)
The Kamara Era (at least as a third-down back) has begun in New Orleans, and it looks good so far. Kamara has a touchdown in each of the last two games, and last week he led the team with 10 catches. Now that Adrian Peterson is gone, Kamara might also get more carries behind Mark Ingram. He should be able to do damage against Detroit.

Javorius Allen, Ravens (vs. CHI)
After Terrance West went down last week, Allen, who had mainly been the pass-catching back, carried the ball 21 times for 71 yards and a touchdown (while also catching four passes for 12 yards). West has already been ruled out this week, and Chicago's defense is coming off a short week after playing Monday night, so Allen is in a good spot Sunday.

Andre Ellington, Cardinals (vs. TB)
Ellington exemplifies the term "pass-catching back". Although he hasn't been a major part of the Arizona ground game (with the acquisition of Adrian Peterson, he'll continue to get very few carries), he is second on the team in targets and catches so far this season (trailing only Larry Fitzgerald). He faces a Tampa team that has had the second-worst pass defense in the NFL so far this year.

Wide Receiver
Jarvis Landry, Dolphins (@ ATL)
Landry is the clear number one receiver in Miami with Devante Parker doubtful for Sunday. Last week, Jarvis had five catches for 44 yards and a touchdown against Tennessee. Atlanta's defense is tough, but the Falcons actually rank in the bottom half of the league (17th, to be exact) in pass defense so far this season. Landry will see the brunt of the workload sans Parker.

Jermaine Kearse, Jets (vs. NE)
Kearse has been the most productive pass-catcher for the Jets so far this season. That may not be saying a whole lot, considering New York doesn't have the most prolific offense, but it might be saying something against New England, which has the worst defense in the NFL.

Rishard Matthews, Titans (vs. IND)
Matthews, like Landry and Kearse, is currently his team's number one receiver. Although he has only totaled six catches for 83 yards the last two games combined, the Tennessee offense should be more proficient due to Marcus Mariota's return and a matchup against the Indianapolis pass defense, which ranks 30th in the NFL.

Tight End
Ryan Griffin, Texans (vs. CLE)
Death, taxes and tight ends playing well against the Browns. Cleveland has given up seven touchdowns to opposing tight ends through the first five games. Griffin isn't a highly-productive tight end, but he's the clear number one in Houston, and, as players like Jesse James and Tyler Kroft have shown, all you really need is opportunity when playing the Browns.

Evan Engram, Giants (@ DEN)
Speaking of opportunity, Engram is now New York's top pass-catcher after injuries to Odell Beckham Jr. (who's out for the season), Brandon Marshall (who's on Injured Reserve) and Sterling Shepard (who's questionable for Sunday) last week. Denver's defense is tough, but somebody is going to catch passes for the Giants, and Engram's the best bet to do so.

George Kittle, 49ers (@ WAS)
Kittle broke out last week with seven catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. He has drawn more attention from Brian Hoyer, going from a combined 14 targets the first four games to nine targets last week. Washington's pass defense has it's share of deficiencies, and San Francisco will probably be throwing the ball quite a bit on Sunday.

Defense
Tennessee Titans (vs. IND)
Jacoby Brissett has not performed terribly for the Colts, but he has two touchdowns and three interceptions in his four starts, so he's been far from a world-beater. Without Andrew Luck, Indianapolis ranks 25th in the league in total offense. A Monday night trip to Tennessee probably won't help.

Atlanta Falcons (vs. MIA)
Atlanta is well-rested coming off a bye week. Plus, the Falcons will get free safety Ricardo Allen (who was out with a concussion) back Sunday, and might get pass-rusher Vic Beasley Jr. (who's been out with a hamstring injury) back. ATL gets Jay Cutler and a Miami offense that ranks last in the NFL, and that's before taking into account the fact that Devante Parker probably won't play.

Los Angeles Rams (@ JAX)The Rams defense hasn't been quite as dominant as I expected coming into the season, but they still have nine turnovers (tied for sixth in the league), and they face off against a Jacksonville team that has leaned heavily on its defense. Although the Jags are top five in points per game, their Blake Bortles-led offense ranks in the bottom half of the league.

Week 7 College Football Picks

Utah looks to bounce back Saturday night after a close loss to Stanford last week
Photo via USA Today
Last weekend was a wild one in college football. A potential Playoff contender lost to a team that hadn't beaten them since 1990. Another top ten team fell to an unranked foe that night. A week after losing to Troy, LSU beat a ranked team. A player used an opposing player's leg as a guitar. A game went seven overtimes, and in that game, a player's sister came on to the field to celebrate a touchdown (during the game). It might be too much to ask for as much action this weekend, but you never know with college football.

Play of Week 6: "Shades of Manziel"

Alabama went to College Station last week to face 4-1 Texas A&M, and many (myself included) expected the Tide to keep rolling without much resistance. But quarterback Kellen Mond and the Aggies battled until the end, thanks in part to this touchdown that brought back memories of Johnny Football. Alas, Money Mond and the Aggies came up short against the Tide.

Performance of Week 6: Khalil Tate, QB, Arizona

Photo via USA Today
12-13, 154 yards passing, 1 TD; 14 carries, 327 yards rushing, 4 TD

Arizona came away with a 45-42 win on the road against Colorado last week, and the Wildcats' sophomore quarterback was a big factor. He led all FBS player in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns last week, and he completed all but one pass.

Picks

Record
Last Week: 16-4   vs. Spread: 11-9   O/U: 9-11
Season: 91-20   vs. Spread: 43-46   O/U: 42-47

#6 TCU 42, Kansas State 32 (Noon, FS1)
Line: TCU -7   O/U: 49.5
TCU comes into this game looking like the best team in the Big 12 after wins over Oklahoma State and West Virginia. Kansas State, which was ranked four weeks ago, has lost two of three. The Wildcats might hang in there at home, but Kenny Hill and the Horned Frogs will be too much.

#17 Michigan 31, Indiana 24 (Noon, ABC)
Line: MICH -7.5   O/U: 46.5
Michigan will try to get back on track after a loss to Michigan State last Saturday night. This week, the defensive-minded Wolverines face off with the offensive-minded Hoosiers. Indiana will test Michigan in Bloomington, but I can't see Jim Harbaugh's team dropping two in a row to unranked foes.

#20 NC State 38, Pittsburgh 17 (Noon, ACCN)
Line: NCST -11   O/U: 53.5
After a big win over Lamar Jackson and Louisville last week, the Wolfpack travel to the Steel City to face Pitt Saturday. I don't see the 2-4 Panthers (who are coming off a loss to Syracuse) standing much of a chance against NC State.

#24 Texas Tech 38, West Virginia 45 (Noon, ESPNU)
Line: WVU -3.5   O/U: 72.5
Expect a high-scoring affair when Texas Tech's Air Raid offense faces off against Will Grier and the Mountaineers. WVU fell just short against TCU last week, and the Red Raiders will not make it easy this week, but having a veteran quarterback and home-field advantage should help West Virginia to victory.

Purdue 14, #7 Wisconsin 32 (3:30 PM, BTN)
Line: WISC -17   O/U: 50
The Boilermakers have looked a lot better so far this year than they have the past few years, but knocking off Wisconsin Saturday in Madison will be a tall order. The 5-0 Badgers have scored over 30 points in every game, and their closest win was by nine points (against Northwestern). I expect Wisky to cruise to 6-0.

#10 Auburn 34, LSU 16 (3:30 PM, CBS)
Line: AUBURN -7   O/U: 43.5
After getting stunned by Troy, LSU came back and beat Florida last week. This week, the Tigers host an Auburn team that ranks 13th in the country in total defense (288 yards allowed per game). LSU has alternated wins and losses the last four games, and I expect that trend to continue in this battle of Tigers.

Georgia Tech 32, #11 Miami 35 (3:30 PM, ABC)
Line: MIAMI -6.5   O/U: 51.5
The Canes are stylin' and profilin' so far this season, coming into this ACC meeting unbeaten. But Georgia Tech's triple-option attack is always a tough offense to defend, and the Yellow Jackets are a two-point conversion away from being unbeaten themselves. I think Miami holds on for the win, but I would not be completely shocked by an upset here.

#12 Oklahoma 38, Texas 32 (3:30 PM, ESPN)
Line: OKLA -9   O/U: 64.5
Baker Mayfield and the Sooners looked like a legitimate Playoff contender after destroying Ohio State in Columbus, but things changed after Oklahoma barely beat Baylor and lost of Iowa State. Tom Herman's squads always play well against ranked teams, but I think Mayfield and company will escape Austin with a win.

Baylor 21, #14 Oklahoma State 44 (3:30 PM, FS1)
Line: OKLAST -26   O/U: 68.5
Baylor has had a very rough season, coming into a road meeting with Oklahoma State at 0-5. To their credit, the Bears haven't lost a game by more than two touchdowns, but Mason Rudolph and the Cowboys should change that this weekend.

#25 Navy 41, Memphis 38 (3:45 PM, ESPNU)
Line: MEMP -3   O/U: 71
After squeaking by Air Force last week, unbeaten Navy faces another tough test on Saturday in Memphis. The 4-1 Tigers rank 11th in the nation in total offense (509 yards per game), but they're 124th in total defense (506 yards allowed per game), which doesn't bode well against a Navy offense that averages 508 yards per game (12th in the nation).

East Carolina 13, #22 UCF 55 (7:00 PM, CBSSN)
Line: UCF -36   O/U: 69.5
Speaking of really bad defenses, 1-5 East Carolina ranks last in the country in total defense (600 yards allowed per game), and the Pirates have given up 47.8 points per game (also last in the FBS). Central Florida, which ranks eighth in total offense (533 yards per game), should have a (literal) field day on Saturday.

Arkansas 10, #1 Alabama 52 (7:15 PM, ESPN)
Line: BAMA -31.5   O/U: 54
Alabama got a bit of a challenge from Kellen Mond and Texas A&M last week, but was still able to prevail. Arkansas, which got dominated by South Carolina last week, shouldn't provide nearly as much of a challenge.

#9 Ohio State 48, Nebraska 17 (7:30 PM, FS1)
Line: OHIOST -24.5   O/U: 58
Since the ugly loss to Oklahoma, Ohio State has dominated (albeit against weak competition). Nebraska might provide a tougher test than Army, UNLV, Rutgers, or Maryland, but J.T. Barrett and the Buckeyes should still win in a rout.

Missouri 3, #4 Georgia 40 (7:30 PM, SECN)
Line: UGA -29.5   O/U: 56.5
Georgia, with a top three defense and a dangerous backfield tandem of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, looks like Alabama's biggest challenger in the SEC (along with Auburn). Missouri, meanwhile, has lost four in a row. The Bulldogs will continue their domination.

Cincinnati 24, #18 South Florida 51 (7:30 PM, ESPNU)
Line: SFLA -23.5   O/U: 65
The undefeated Bulls of South Florida haven't played anyone of much significance so far this season, and they won't play anyone of much significance Saturday either. After getting shellacked by Central Florida last week (51-23), the 2-4 Bearcats will have the honor of being shellacked by South Florida this week.

Utah 38, #13 USC 35 (8:00 PM, ABC)
Line: USC -13   O/U: 52.5
There are no matchups between ranked teams this weekend (in fact, College Gameday is at James Madison, an FCS school, this Saturday), but this primetime Pac-12 battle comes close. The Utes were ranked last week before falling to Stanford, and I think they'll bounce back by upsetting the Trojans, who have been shaky this season.

#21 Michigan State 31, Minnesota 20 (8:00 PM, BTN)
Line: MICHST -4   O/U: 40
Fresh off an upset of in-state rival Michigan, Mark Dantonio's team marks its 2017 debut in the Top 25 with a trip to Minnesota. I'm still unsure about just how good the Spartans are (they got whacked by Notre Dame and barely beat Iowa), but I think they're good enough to get by the Golden Gophers.

Boise State 28, #19 San Diego State 34 (10:30 PM, CBSSN)
Line: SDGST -6.5   O/U: 46
San Diego State may face a bit of a challenge when it hosts Boise State for the first time in three years. The Broncos are 4-2, but one of those losses was to Washington State in three overtimes. Then again, the other loss was by 19 points to Virginia. I think Rashaad Penny and the Aztecs run past Boise in a tightly-contested one.

#5 Washington 52, Arizona State 27 (10:45 PM, ESPN)
Line: WASH -17.5   O/U: 56
The 6-0 Huskies have blown through their schedule so far (their closest win was their first, a 30-14 victory over Rutgers), and it should be more of the same Saturday night in Tempe. 2-3 Arizona State will have a hard time stopping Jake Browning and friends.

Oregon 32, #23 Stanford 45 (11:00 PM, FS1)
Line: STNFRD -10   O/U: 55.5
The night ends with some #Pac12AfterDark, as the flamboyant Ducks travel to Stanford to battle the Cardinal. Crazy things could happen (since it's a late-night Pac-12 game), but Bryce Love and company shouldn't have too much trouble with an Oregon team that got trounced by Washington State last week.

Fantasy Football Week 5 Preview (and Picks!)

A quarterback switch in Chicago could help impressive pass-catching back Tarik Cohen
(Photo via ChicagoBears.com)
It's been an action-packed week in the NFL. A rookie quarterback led his team to a franchise-record 57 points, New England lost again (and then won Thursday night), the Mike Glennon era ended in Chicago, two teams lost their starting quarterbacks, and the Browns... are still the Browns. It looks like we could see a lot more action this weekend.

Players I Like This Week

(Players Listed in no Particular Order)

Quarterback
Phillip Rivers, Chargers (@ NYG)
If you take away his zero touchdown/three interception performance against Kansas City, Dr. Phil has thrown for 870 yards, six touchdowns, and one pick in three games. I think this game between winless teams (and veteran quarterbacks) could come down to the wire, and I expect Rivers and the Chargers to come out on top.

Carson Palmer, Cardinals (@ PHI)
Palmer has been shaky so far this season (as has the health of his receiving corps), but he has a nice matchup this week against a Philadelphia pass defense that ranks 30th in the NFL. Plus, Arizona's rushing attack hasn't done much since David Johnson went down, meaning Palmer will continue to air it out quite a bit.

Dak Prescott, Cowboys (vs. GB)
The Dallas-Green Bay game will likely be a shootout, and that's good news for Dak, who's played well this season. The last time he played Green Bay (during last season's NFC Divisional Round), Prescott threw for 302 yards and three touchdowns.

Running Back
Tarik Cohen, Bears (vs. MIN)
After four weeks of ineffectiveness from Mike Glennon, the Bears are finally turning to rookie Mitch(ell) Trubisky. Cohen leads the team in targets (and catches) by a wide margin, and Trubisky will probably lean on Cohen heavily in the rookie's debut.

Isaiah Crowell & Duke Johnson, Jr., Browns (vs. NYJ)
I'm literally doubling down on the Cleveland backfield this week. Johnson has been the team's most dangerous receiving weapon, but Crowell has not done much. He expressed his frustration with his usage after last week's loss, and coach Hue Jackson agreed that they need to lean on him more. I think they will against a Jets team that has given up 143.8 rushing yards per game (fourth-worst in the NFL).

Alex Collins, Ravens (@ OAK)
Apparently, Collins is now Baltimore's feature back. In each of the last two weeks, he has turned nine carries into 82 yards. That production, coupled with the fact that Oakland's rush defense is below-average, could lead to more carries (and more production) Sunday.

Wide Receiver
Pierre Garcon, 49ers (@ IND)
Garcon has been targeted 33 times this season, 11 more than the next closest Niner (Carlos Hyde). This week he travels to Indy to play his former team, which has had the fourth-worst pass defense in the NFL so far this season.

DeVante Parker, Dolphins (vs. TEN)
Through three games, Parker has 18 receptions and 230 yards. Tennessee's defense just gave up 57 points to Houston, and the Titans have yielded 11 total touchdowns through the air this season (second-most in the NFL).

Jaron Brown, Cardinals (@ PHI)
Brown had eight catches for 105 yards in an overtime win against San Francisco last week, and fellow pass-catchers John Brown and J.J. Nelson are questionable for this Sunday. Plus, he should find plenty of room against the porous Philly pass defense.

Tight End
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Jets (@ CLE)
Bengals tight end Tyler Kroft scored two touchdowns against the Browns last week, becoming the second tight end to accomplish that feat against Cleveland this season (Jesse James was the other). ASJ, who had four catches for 46 yards last week, could find success this week against the league's worst tight end defense.

Jared Cook, Raiders (vs. BAL)
With Derek Carr out this week, backup E.J. Manuel might lean on his tight end a little bit. Cook tied for the team lead in targets (eight) last week against Denver (albeit with Michael Crabtree out), and he could be heavily-targeted again this week.

Charles Clay, Bills (@ CIN)
Clay has been Tyrod Taylor's favorite target so far this season. Clay leads the team in targets (25) and yards (227), and is tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns (two). Now that Jordan Matthews is out, Clay will be looked to even more.

Defense
Cleveland Browns (vs. NYJ)
Yes, I know I have put the Browns defense on this list too many times (the correct amount would have been zero), but number one overall pick Myles Garret will play this week, and New York's offense doesn't exactly strike fear into the hearts of opponents.

Baltimore Ravens (@ OAK)
Baltimore is tied for the league lead in takeaways (11), and this week the Ravens get E.J. Manuel and the Raiders, who have only scored ten points in each of the last two games (and most of that was with Derek Carr at quarterback).

Cincinnati Bengals (vs. BUF)
Cincinnati ranks third in the NFL in total defense, giving up just 273.3 yards per game. On the other side of the ball is Buffalo's offense, which ranks 29th in the NFL (284.3 yards per game).

Week 6 College Football Picks

This week's college football slate features many enticing conference matchups, including a Big 12 battle of ranked teams and some #PAC12AfterDark.

Play of Week 5: "Saquone-handed"

For the second week in a row, Saquon Barkley appears in this spot. Already up on Indiana 21-0 late in the first quarter, Barkley palmed a first down screen pass and took it 36 yards through the Hoosier defense.

(Mis)Play of Week 5: "Friendly Fire"

East Carolina did not have a good day last Saturday. The Pirates lost to South Florida, 61-31, and punter Austin Barnes punted a ball into the back of his teammate's head.

Top Performance of Week 5

Bryce Love, RB, Stanford - 25 carries, 301 yards, 3 TD
All the Cardinal needed Saturday in a 34-24 win over Arizona State was Love, who set a new school record for rushing yards in a single game. He now has 1,088 rushing yards through five games, the most in the FBS. The next closest player has 823 rushing yards.

Picks

Record
Last Week: 15-2   vs. Spread: 9-8   O/U: 7-10
Season: 75-16   vs. Spread: 32-37   O/U: 33-36

(Home Teams Listed Last)

Wake Forest 13, #2 Clemson 35 (Noon, ESPN2)
Line: CLEM -21.5   O/U: 47.5
The Demon Deacons are 4-1 on the season, but they couldn't beat Deondre Francois-less Florida State last week in Winston-Salem. So beating Kelly Bryant and the defending champs in Death Valley is probably not going to happen.

Iowa State 17, #3 Oklahoma 48 (Noon, Fox)
Line: OKLA -30.5   O/U: 63.5
Oklahoma struggled with winless Baylor last week, so the outcome of this one isn't a foregone conclusion. But Iowa State, which lost to Texas last week, hasn't beaten the Sooners since 1990, and I think that drought continues on the road against Baker Mayfield and company Saturday.

#4 Penn State 32, Northwestern 10 (Noon, ABC)
Line: PSU -14   O/U: 51
The Nittany Lions should be weary of the Wildcats, who battled Wisconsin in a 33-24 loss last week. Plus, the last time Penn State played a Big Ten team on the road, Iowa almost pulled off the upset. However, Penn State's talent should overwhelm Northwestern.

#5 Georgia 35, Vanderbilt 24 (Noon, ESPN)
Line: UGA -17   O/U: 40.5
Facing its fourth ranked team in a row, I think Vanderbilt will fare better than it did against Alabama and Florida. But the Commodore defense will have a hard time stopping Nick Chubb and the surging Bulldogs.

Ole Miss 9, #12 Auburn 31 (Noon, SECN)
Line: AUB -22.5   O/U: 57
Ole Miss got smashed by Alabama last weekend, and it won't be a whole lot easier this weekend. Auburn's defense ranks ninth in the country. The Rebel defense, on the other hand, ranks 101st in the country.

#23 West Virginia 32, #8 TCU 41 (3:30 PM, FS1)
Line: TCU -13   O/U: 67.5
I think this will be the game to watch this weekend. Veteran quarterback Will Grier gives the Mountaineers a real shot at the upset, but TCU, which ranks in the top 30 in both total offense and total defense, looks like the real deal.

#13 Miami 30, Florida State 17 (3:30 PM, ESPN)
Line: MIAMI -3   O/U: 45
The loss of Deondre Francois was clearly a devastating blow for the Seminoles, as they lost to NC State and barely beat Wake Forest in their two full games without him. They'll be hard-pressed to get a win against the unbeaten Canes.

#21 Notre Dame 44, North Carolina 20 (3:30 PM, ABC)
Line: ND -15   O/U: 63
The Fighting Irish, behind junior running back Josh Adams, have looked good since a nail-biting loss to Georgia. 1-4 North Carolina provides little resistance to Adams and the Irish.

LSU 13, #21 Florida 28 (3:30 PM, CBS)
Line: FLA -2   O/U: 45
LSU is not good, as evidenced by its blowout loss to Mississippi State and its upset loss to Troy. Florida still has questions on offense, but the Gators are definitely a lot better than the Tigers.

Oregon State 17, #14 USC 48 (4:00 PM, PAC12N)
Line: USC -33.5   O/U: 58
USC's loss to Washington State last Friday probably dashed its Playoff hopes (along with Sam Darnold's Heisman hopes), but the Trojans will bounce back against Oregon State, which has the tenth-worst defense in the nation.

Maryland 14, #10 Ohio State 52 (4:00 PM, Fox)
Line: OSU -31   O/U: 60.5
Ohio State steamrolled Rutgers last week, 56-0. Maryland provides a tougher test for the Buckeyes, but it still shouldn't be close, especially if J.T. Barrett and the OSU offense continue to play better.

#1 Alabama 38, Texas A&M 10 (7:15 PM, ESPN)
Line: ALA -26.5   O/U: 55.5
One shouldn't completely count out Kellen Mond and the 4-1 Aggies, but the Tide continue to roll, blowing out Vandy, 59-0, and Ole Miss, 66-3, the past two weeks. Another blowout is likely in the cards for Saturday.

#16 Virginia Tech 34, Boston College 13 (7:15 PM, ESPN2)
Line: VT -16.5   O/U: 45.5
The Hokies (unsurprisingly) got stomped by Clemson last Saturday night, but they should find relief this week. Boston College averages 17.6 points per game (118th in the nation), while Tech's defense gives up just 14.4 points per game (T-12th in the nation).

Michigan State 17, #7 Michigan 30 (7:30 PM, ABC)
Line: MICH -10.5   O/U: 40.5
Michigan State will be hyped and ready to go for this in-state rivalry game Saturday night, so it could be close. But Michigan has a lot more talent, and the team's one big question mark (quarterback) might have solved itself when Wilton Speight got hurt, paving the way for John O'Korn.

#9 Wisconsin 32, Nebraska 14 (8:00 PM, BTN)
Line: WIS -11   O/U: 45.5
Wisconsin will try not to fall into an upset trap when it goes to Nebraska Saturday night. I don't think this bona fide Badger team will, especially against a Cornhusker team that has lost to Oregon and Northern Illinois.

#11 Washington State 45, Oregon 38 (8:00 PM, Fox)
Line: WSU -3   O/U: 59.5
Washington State looks like a legitimate Pac-12 title threat after beating USC last Friday night, and I think they are. But a Saturday night trip to Eugene could make for a wild (and closer-than-expected) contest.

#25 UCF 35, Cincinnati 21 (8:00 PM, ESPNU)
Line: UCF -17   O/U: 54
3-0 Central Florida appears in the Top 25 for the first time this season, and shouldn't be in much danger of falling back out this week. Junior quarterback Hayden Moore could keep the Bearcats in it, but this is a team that has lost to Navy and Marshall the last two weeks.

Stanford 27, #20 Utah 32 (10:15 PM, FS1)
Line: STAN -4   O/U: 51
There are multiple #PAC12AfterDark games to choose from this weekend, and this one might be the most tightly-contested one. Utah will look to improve to 5-0, but must stop Bryce Love, the nation's top running back. I think the host Utes (and their 17th-ranked defense) will escape with a victory.

California 24, #6 Washington 52 (10:45 PM, ESPN)
Line: WASH -28.5   O/U: 52
This late-night Pac-12 game may not be as closely-contested as the others. Cal has lost to USC and Oregon the last two weeks, and now the Bears must face Jake Browning and the unbeaten Huskies in Seattle. Washington hasn't had to sweat so far this season, and I don't think there will be much sweating here.

#19 San Diego State 27, UNLV 12 (10:45 PM, ESPN2)
Line: SDSU -10   O/U: 57
Once again, the Top 25 slate ends with San Diego State, which travels to UNLV this week. With running back Rashaad Penny (who ranks second in the FBS in rushing yards) and a top-25 defense, the Aztecs should cruise.
