Fantasy Football/NFL Week 16 Preview

It's championship time (for most fantasy football leagues). It's time to strap in. It's time to focus all of your energy and attention on fantasy football (if you haven't already, which you should have been). It goes without saying (so I'm going to say it), but this is not the week to leave points on the bench. Lineup decisions this week leave no room for error. You have to make the right choices. Hopefully, I can help you do that.

Week 16 Picks to Click

QB

Top 3

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs (@ SEA) - Despite losing to Phillip Rivers and the Chargers last week, Pat is still my favorite to win MVP.

Drew Brees, Saints (vs. PIT) - Brees and the dangerous Saints offense have been incredibly quiet the past three weeks, but I expect a bounce-back this week against Pittsburgh.

Andrew Luck, Colts (vs. NYG) - Luck didn't do much last week (he didn't need to), but he has thrown at least three touchdown passes in eight games this season.

Sleepers

Deshaun Watson, Texans (@ PHI) - The banged-up Philly secondary held the Rams in check last week, but may not hold Watson, who has over 200 yards passing in each of his last seven games.

Mitchell Trubisky, Bears (@ SF) - Mitchell, like Watson, brings upside thanks to his running ability, and he could do damage against a vulnerable San Francisco defense.

Baker Mayfield, Browns (vs. CIN) - Baker didn't have his best game last week, but he should play much better at home against a defense he lit up for four touchdowns last time.

RB

Top 3

Ezekiel Elliott, Cowboys (vs. TB) - Zeke has eclipsed 100 total yards in each of his last seven games, and should do so again against the awful Tampa Bay defense.

Christian McCaffrey, Panthers (vs. ATL) - CMC didn't find the endzone last week, but I bet he will this week against a team that has not been able to stop opposing running backs.

Todd Gurley, Rams (vs. ARI) - Gurley hasn't done much in terms of yards the last two weeks, but that should change against the lowly Arizona Cardinals.

Sleepers

Derrick Henry, Titans (vs. WAS) - It turns out Henry's insane Thursday night performance may have not been a complete anomaly, as he followed it up with 170 yards and a touchdown last week.

Chris Carson, Seahawks (vs. KC) - Carson (who had 148 total yards and a touchdown last week) and the run-heavy Seahawks face the incredibly bad Kansas City defense this weekend.

Jamaal Williams, Packers (@ NYJ) - With Aaron Jones on IR, Williams has taken over lead-back duties for the Packers, and he should find some open field against the Jets.

WR

Top 3

DeAndre Hopkins, Texans (@ PHI) - Hopkins is making a claim as the best receiver in football. We'll see what he follows up his 170-yard, two-touchdown performance with.

Julio Jones, Falcons (@ CAR) - Jones, who has 1,511 yards receiving and six touchdowns (!!) this season, will produce against the free-falling Panthers.

Devante Adams, Packers (@ NYJ) - Adams has been targeted 37 total times the past three weeks, and could tear up the Jets like Hopkins did last week.

Sleepers

Alshon Jeffery, Eagles (vs. HOU) - Jeffery was Nick Foles' favorite deep threat Sunday night, finishing with eight catches for 160 yards.

DaeSean Hamilton, Broncos (@ OAK) - The Broncos have struggled, but Hamilton seems to be the number one receiver (he was targeted 12 times last week).

Robby Anderson, Jets (vs. GB) - Anderson has scored each of the last two weeks, and also had 11 targets and 96 yards last week.

TE

Top 3

Travis Kelce, Chiefs (@ SEA) - The top three...

Zach Ertz, Eagles (vs. HOU) - ...at this position...

George Kittle, 49ers (vs. CHI) - ...is pretty clear.

Sleepers

Evan Engram, Giants (@ IND) - OBJ will be out again this week. Without him last week, Engram has eight catches (on 12 targets) for 75 yards.

David Njoku, Browns (vs. CIN) - Last time these two teams met, Njoku had five catches for 63 yards and a touchdown.

Ian Thomas, Panthers (vs. ATL) - The tight end may be Taylor Heinicke's preferred target against the weak Atlanta defense this weekend.

D/ST

Top 3

Chicago Bears (@ SF) - The best defense in the National Football League faces former undrafted third-string quarterback Nick Mullens this week.

Tennessee Titans (vs. WAS) - I'm rooting for Josh Johnson, but I'm going to need to see more than just a solid game against the rock-bottom Jaguars to be sold.

Los Angeles Rams (@ ARI) - Arizona's punchless offense could have trouble against Aaron Donald and the Rams

Sleepers

Miami Dolphins (vs. JAX) - Speaking of the rock-bottom Jaguars...

Denver Broncos (@ OAK) - Denver's tough defense faces Oakland's tough (in a bad way) offense.

Washington Redskins (@ TEN) - This will probably be a low-scoring game.

K

Top 3

Greg Zuerlein, Rams (@ ARI)

Will Lutz, Saints (vs. PIT)

Ka'imi Fairbairn, Texans (@ PHI)

Saturday

Redskins @ Titans (4:30 PM, NFL Network)

It probably won't happen, but imagine Josh Johnson leading Washington to the playoffs.

Spread: TEN -11   Over/Under: 37.5

Prediction: Titans 19, Redskins 13

Ravens @ Chargers (8:20 PM, NFL Network)

Lamar and the Ravens need this win, but Phillip and the Chargers are rolling right now.

Spread: LAC -4   Over/Under: 42.5

Prediction: Chargers 28, Ravens 21

Sunday

Falcons @ Panthers (1:00 PM, FOX)

I don't have much faith in the Panthers at this point, especially without Cam Newton.

Spread: ATL -3   Over/Under: 44.5

Prediction: Falcons 27, Panthers 14

Bills @ Patriots (1:00 PM, CBS)

The Bills and their stingy defense could keep them in this, but the Patriots should prevail.

Spread: NE -13.5   Over/Under: 44

Prediction: Patriots 24, Bills 17

Bengals @ Browns (1:00 PM, CBS)

The team with Hue Jackson will lose this game. The team with Baker Mayfield will win this game.

Prediction: Browns 31, Bengals 20

Packers @ Jets (1:00 PM, FOX)

Neither of these teams is particularly good, but I believe the Packers have more talent.

Spread: GB -3   Over/Under: 46.5

Texans @ Eagles (1:00 PM, CBS)

Nick Foles and the Eagles are on a mission, so I'm not betting against them.

Spread: PHI -2   Over/Under: 46

Prediction: Eagles 27, Texans 24

Jaguars @ Dolphins (1:00 PM, CBS)

While I advise not betting against Foles and the Eagles, I advise not betting on Kessler and the Jags.

Spread: MIA -3.5   Over/Under: 38.5

Prediction: Dolphins 22, Jaguars 13

Vikings @ Lions (1:00 PM, FOX)

The Vikings looked good last week in a rout of the Dolphins, while the Lions...

Spread: MIN -6   Over/Under: 42.5

Prediction: Vikings 30, Lions 17

Giants @ Colts (1:00 PM, CBS)

The Giants, sans OBJ, will have a tough time upsetting the Colts, who just shut out the Cowboys.

Spread: IND -9.5   Over/Under: 48

Prediction: Colts 21, Giants 14

Buccaneers @ Cowboys (1:00 PM, FOX)

Speaking of the 'boys, they should be able to bounce back from the poor showing against the Colts.

Spread: DAL -7   Over/Under: 48

Prediction: Cowboys 29, Buccaneers 17

Bears @ 49ers (4:05 PM, FOX)

Don't look now but the Niners have won two in a row (I still expect the Bears to win this one).

Spread: CHI -4.5   Over/Under: 43

Prediction: Bears 24, 49ers 17

Rams @ Cardinals (4:05 PM, FOX)

The Rams have struggles lately, but a meeting with the Cardinals may get them rolling again.

Spread: LAR -14   Over/Under: 44

Prediction: Rams 31, Cardinals 14

Steelers @ Saints (4:25 PM, FOX)

I don't know where the Saints' offense went, but I think it'll reappear against Pittsburgh.

Spread: NO -6.5   Over/Under: 53

Prediction: Saints 32, Steelers 24

Chiefs @ Seahawks (8:20 PM, NBC)

I'm tempted to go with the Seahawks at home... you know what, I'll go with the Seahawks at home.

Spread: KC -1.5   Over/Under: 55

Prediction: Seahawks 30, Chiefs 28

Monday

Broncos @ Raiders (8:15 PM, ESPN)

Not exactly an ideal primetime matchup, but at least we'll get to see the terrorizing Denver defense.

Spread: DEN -3   Over/Under: 42

Prediction: Broncos 24, Raiders 14
